DESCRIPTION 

Beloved is a spellbinding novel that transforms a horrific history into a powerful yet intimate experience. Sethe, the novel's protagonist, was born a slave, and escaped to Ohio in her early life; but she never was truly free, as too many memories of Sweet Home remained to haunt her. 

The original cover lacked the depth and dignity the story merited, prompting me to design a more evocative dusk jacket. I captured the novel's raw and poignant essence using gradient lighting and a muted palette, with the trauma-symbolizing tobacco lettering referencing a character's poignant backstory. This tragic tale is told through Morrison's graceful and vivid prose, which I mirrored in the intricately hand-crafted calligraphic font on the jacket.
